Xtra-Sense Ltd has developed force detection technology which is an innovative combination of low cost sensors and leading edge processing electronics. By varying the configuration of the sensor elements, the sensors can be arranged to monitor load or stress changes on or within a wide range of structures, for a broad scope of applications. Currently these are used in detecting attacks on bank ATMs and other applications where rigorous standards apply.
With further development, this technology may be applicable to aid the decision making of sports referees. Deflection or distortion of the sensor as a result of a change in stress or load in or on the structure provides a signal input to the processing electronics. Signal size and polarity is proportional to the stress or load change experienced by the sensor. Signal processing electronics analyse the signals for magnitude and frequency, and activate only on signals generated by very low frequency or step changes in load or stress above a pre-determined threshold level. High frequency changes, such as vibrations, are ignored. The threshold level sets the system sensitivity, and is variable according to the configuration of sensor and electronics. Once activated the system automatically resets to the new steady state condition and monitors for any further step change. Xtra-Sense systems effectively provide a digital response, and are ideal for applications identifying distinct changes in both magnitude and direction of load, such as security detectors and counting systems. We are not familiar with the technology of or need for sports adjudication systems and we would seek to partner with organisations who can define such needs.

Idea Summary: Ultimately, our remit as a market research provider is to facilitate the link between the decision-maker and the consumer. We are interested in helping to provide this bridge between researchers and the consumer to understand what consumers require and what would serve to enhance their experiences in order to drive systems development and design.

There are a number of ways in which consumer feedback can be obtained by telephone, face-to-face, online, group or individual interviews and SKOPOS offers the full range of services. Essentially, our role would be integral at the early stage of systems design and development and would help to inform the optimum innovations and systems based on direct consumer feedback. Frequently, organisations and companies will implement systems without consulting the people who will actually experience these systems directly i.e. the consumers. By obtaining feedback through well-designed and insightful market research, SKOPOS can help White Loop and its partners avoid risk in the form of ill-conceived systems which fail to connect with the consumer and increase gain by fine-tuning and enhancing systems that are well-received by the consumer population.
