Idea Summary: A global virtual Olympic games, set in a virtual online London 2012 Olympic stadium. An extraordinary competition designed to bring nations together. All networked through custom avatars that are managed, nurtured, trained and kinetically powered by users, through social networking spaces and physical, healthy exercise.
Idea Submission:

Imagine a gaming system that unites a global audience in competitive play, community and a real world active exercise, focusing on the Olympics universal moral principles and the spirit of bringing people together.
The game itself is a virtual Olympic games online, using social networking (facebook, myspace, bebo) avatars as a host, which the user will design, nurture, train and compete in actual Olympic challenges featured within 2012 programme and situated in a virtual London stadium. This will lead up to the start of the 2012 games in a united competition.
The process of the being able to play is simple: you set up a Facebook or Myspace or Bebo to host your avatar, which the user will be able to design; from what sex the avatar is, to what hair colour, build and personality. The avatar will be powered through kinetic stored energy generated by the user. Not unlike a Nike plus device, but a USB dongle, small enough to exercise and enabling you to plug into Mac, PC, PS3, XBOX or Wii, as well access via mobile devices. As you run or exercise, the data is recorded and stored up as credit. The user will then be able to use this credit as energy, virtual energy fuelling their avatar. So your activity powers your play. When your avatar is low on energy and is underperforming, the only way to resolve this, would be to go out and exercise, putting emphasise on healthy activity and getting young people to actively exercise. The game will be devised through teams decided by the country that the user is from. This will be managed via facebook, myspace and bebo. Facebook hosts 18 million global user profiles and myspace 11 million and Bebo 8 million, so this would be a perfect and easy management system to harness universal involvement of all ages. These teams will compete globally as well as locally through events and heats for points and in turn build up to the final game off, which will run parallel to the 2012 games. The finalists will consist of the top winning point individuals, from the winning point countries from which they're representing. These individuals will then compete at the live games against each other to resolve a final winner.

Idea Summary: A photo-realistic virtual Olympic Park with virtual competitors and advertising space for Tier one/two sponsors and partners in a new 3D immersive world that mashes up the real with the virtual world.
Idea Submission:

Twofour is in a unique position to create a new gaming destination around London 2012 as we are BBC approved suppliers, we are on the LOCOG/ODA New Media Roster and we are also UK development partners of the next big development in 3D virtual worlds," Twinity, which is currently in private beta.
Twinity is the next generation in virtual worlds - being an exact replica of the real world - with major international cities, down to the street sign, being faithfully recreated. The Twinity universe will be populated with photorealistic avatars and provide a host of social tools, allowing users to communicate with friends, engage in shared media experiences, work or simply have fun. This technology is proven, reliable and robust.
Our proposed idea is to build the finished Olympic Park to scale with each venue recreated in exact detail within Twinity's London and to host a virtual Olympics in 2012, the first truly Digital Olympics.
The Twinity Olympic Park will have the following functionality:
Up to 2012:
- Allow users to explore the finished Olympic venues;
- Run school tours or host School Olympics which would fit in with the Citizenship, PSHE and PE curriculum;
- Host Cultural Olympiad events;
- Link in with BBC programming around the Olympics; " highlighting the profiles of athletes in the run up to 2012" and other BBC programming.
- Displaying on big screens the building in progress and site webcams;
- Virtual meetings with architects, sports journalists, athletes and other LOCOG stakeholders;
- Allow users to roam the Olympic area and upload their own (moderated) experiences and stories for display around the site.
During the games in 2012:
- Display the action as it happens on Big Screens and see the action recreated by photorealistic athlete avatars in the virtual world;
- Provide a virtual news room.
After the games:
- Serve as an everlasting virtual reminder of the games with edited highlights available to view in each of the venues.
Benefits:
- Particularly attractive for engaging and involving younger audiences in London 2012.
- Provides a way for potential Olympians to social network and find sponsorship.
- A real 3D model of the Olympic Park for stakeholders/the public to explore and also to allow proper modeling of visitor journeys/disaster planning which could LOCOG with valuable information for the final 2012 sites.
- Unlike the Olympic Park which will be clear of advertising, the Twinity Park can have advertising space for the BBC/Sponsors/Olympic Partners (as members of the LOCOG New Media Roster we are aware of the restrictions on branding and sponsorship).
- BBC feeds can have advertising inserted.
- Provides feedback/social networking around London2012 with the public able to publish their stories about 2012.
- Provides a digital legacy for future generations.

Idea Summary: Younger players will enter a browser based 3D game, set in and around the Olympic Village. Players will be able to interact with other players, play games and develop a vested interest in learning more about the Olympic Games’ history, future and keep up to date with the BBC's Olympic coverage.
Idea Submission:

Creation of a massively multiplayer 3D game targeted towards a younger audience, based in and around theOlympic Village, featuring games, chat, interaction with other players and Olympic news and stories.
We propose that the game is browser based, thus requiring no installation or software. (runescape is a goodexample of a browser based multiplayer 3D game http://www.runescape.com).
Players would create an account and an avatar which they can move around the Olympic Village. One of the main objectives in the game will be to choose an Olympic Team of athletes from different sports and countries. The player will receive points based on their teams combined performance, in a similar style to Fantasy Football (full design and balancing to be defined at a further stage).
Within the Olympic Village the player will be able to visit their team compound. Here they will be able to read about various stories and results concerning the athletes in their team and also stories and results based on the player's geographical location. They will also be able to check how many points their team has scored, upcoming events for their team members and overall score rankings against other players.
Players will also see other players online whilst exploring within the Olympic Village. Players will have their user name and current Team score above their heads. Players will have fun chatting to one another and also challenging each other to mini games, such as trivia or Olympic themed arcade games. Players will get rewarded with Reputation points for interacting and playing games with other players.
Although the mini games have yet to be defined, we will want to include several games and sections which provide information on preparation of London for the games, construction of the Olympic Park, the regeneration of the area and the 'Legacy' plans for the Park.
Players will also get Knowledge points for exploring, this will come in the form of visiting specific event areas or Country's Team Compounds within the Olympic Village.
These sections will provide background and current news on events, countries and athletes.
Exploration will be made fun via various quests and missions the player can accept by talking to Non Player Characters (NPCs). For example one character might ask the player to collect 5 Olympic rings from various locations in the Olympic village.
The game would be kept fresh and exciting, not only would news and results update, but we would schedule new quests, event areas and games to go live during the run up to and during the Olympic Games.
Various competitions with real world prizes can also be run during this period also. These could be based on a specific quest, mini game or even on the player's Team, Reputation or Knowledge points.
We believe this solution taps into the current trend for online multiplayer gaming and is a novel and exciting way to educate, stimulate and communicate coverage of the Olympic Games.

Idea Summary: Create your own Olympic games - think you can do better than the London Olympics organising committee? An online game encouraging players to think about the politics and economics of the games, their environmental and social impact, and hopefully to come up with cool ideas for the Olympics of the future.
Idea Submission:

Create your own Olympic games - think you can do better than the London Olympics organising committee? Why not have a try at managing your own Olympic games in your city?
- Use your budget to create amazing venues and spectacular events. Use the Olympics to kick-start urban renewal and local business.
- Spend your Olympic budget wisely - balancing the needs of athletes and visitors with those of the host nation.
- Try to manage media coverage to make sure the world's media is impressed - positive coverage will make it easier to get more money if your budget gets out of control.
- Keep things on schedule, or you'll be in for criticism from the IOC!
- Compete against other players around the globe: explore their Olympic villages for ideas, and climb the league table for a chance to win a VIP tour of London's Olympic venues, and seats for the opening ceremony.
This idea could take the form of a 'Sim City' style game that could be played in a standard web browser or on mobile devices. Players all start with a fixed budget, and can landscape the playing area to look like their home town or city. They can then spend their Olympic budget on buildings, transport infrastructure, branding and advertising (including expensive logos!), as well as funding local projects to keep the city's residents happy. While the game has educational elements, it must be fun to play. Players can use ready-made building blocks to create their Olympic venues, but they should also be able to create their own. At the end of an Olympics, users will be scored in several ways:
- Suitability for athletes and attendees (Did you build the right venues? Can people get there? etc)
- How much did your games cost?
- Public opinion at home and around the world
- Environmental impact (eg What is the carbon footprint for your games? Can buildings be repurposed for other events after the games? etc)
Players should be able to view and rate the Olympic villages of other players, those that get the highest overall ratings will be entered into the competition, to be judged by an expert panel. Players should be able to collaborate on their Olympic games, perhaps with a set of friends or in their class at school.
The game will encourage players to think about the politics and economics of the games, their environmental and social impact, and hopefully come up with cool ideas for the Olympics of the future. This is also an interesting opportunity to see how people around the world view the Olympics.

Idea Summary: Alpha-Active has produced an EEG brainwave monitor for sports training applications based on a patented signal processing algorithm that is robust to user movement. This is now being developed into a brain-computer interface for innovative brain-controlled games which may allow audiences to engage with the Olympics in new ways.
Idea Submission:

Alpha-Active products and services are based on the well-known fact that when people are in the zone, meditating, etc., their brainwave patterns change. These brainwaves can be measured by a type of electronic device called an EEG (electroencephalogram). When an athlete is in the zone, there is often a measurable increase in activity of one sort of brain wave known as alpha wave. Our pocket-sized EEG system is specifically optimised, following extensive consultation with professional sports coaches and university scientists, to measure alpha and other brainwaves in the sports context. The system is robust to movement artefacts and so is ideal for sports or other ambulatory applications, when an athlete is actively practising.
This system will also provide a unique capability in terms of the user not having to keep still while using it, with potential of inclusion in gaming applications (including online gaming via broadband services across the world). The device is CE-marked to Class 1 medical device standards and, with further work, could be used for EMG (electromyography), e.g. measurement of eye blinks etc., which could be used as further inputs to games controls including by those of restricted ability to manually control games, etc.
In summary, we are an innovative sensors & instrumentation company - not psychologists or games developers. Hence we need games development and trials partners from these fields. Also, we have access (via associated company www.staplethorne.co.uk) to cardiac technology (electronic stethoscope - for heart & lung sounds, ECG, pulse oximetry) and possibly metabolic rate (volume, O2, CO2) which could in principle also be recorded synchronously. We also can access sensitive force sensor technology. By combining these technologies, it may be possible to provide viewers of the Olympic Games with a virtual reality experience of being a participant in The Games. This novel method of engagement may be particularly suited to the young and to people new to the Olympics experience (and indeed new to sports viewing generally). It may also lead to more active participation than simply viewing the Games passively, much as in the use of the Wii remote games controller in, for example, Wii tennis compared with just watching tennis.

Idea Summary: Olympic value visualisation: using a virtual Earth, participants create artwork spanning the globe, moving across the planet, starting and ending at London. Others can see these trails and follow them across the landscape. Messages from around the world appear along the trails. The winning image is realised through mass participation.
Idea Submission:

At the heart of our proposal will be the challenge to create a global image that brings the values of the Olympics to life.
To do so the user must traverse a virtual globe (such as Google Earth or similar), moving across landscapes, leaving a trail behind as they do so. Each trail must start from London and finish at London. Once the user returns to London the image created by the journey is submitted for publication. These images will be superimposed on the rotating image of the earth, which will cycle through all that are published, slowly fading in and out between each published image.
Users can watch the changing imagery, and rate and vote each that they see. Users can also explore an image, starting off from London and following it as it travels around the world, moving across the landscape. As they follow the trail they may also encounter user submitted messages, pictures, texts, videos. The journey will pick up and show any such message that is close to the path of the line. In this way the exploration of each image becomes an exciting exploration of messages of support for the Olympics from all over the world.
Users can themselves submit their own messages of support, either online or by mobile. To cope with moderation requirements it could be that each national broadcaster moderates the messages submitted in their country, or that a message results in moderation not being required.
Linear versions will be generated for TV viewing, following a journey across the world, showing the journey and all the linked messages to viewers.
Each generated image will be submitted into a global competition, with users voting for their favourites, and the final short list being submitted to a panel of judges. From all of the generated images, one will be selected for the final Global Vision Day, where this image will come alive.
Becoming Real
The competition will lead to a real world event where users using mobile phones attempt to create the winning picture for real. Any user who wishes to participate would text in, and would receive a note of the location where they should visit for the Global Vision Day. On this day the locations of all participating users would be received, forming the image on the earth itself.
Preserving the Experience
The output from this interactive competition will be virtual journeys across the world, generating amazing imagery that will span the whole of the earth. The best of the images would be published and preserved for posterity, both in video and book format, whilst all those who participated in the final Global Vision Day would have their names held in posterity.

Idea Summary: Users vote on who they think will win any event. Users will be able to vote online or by mobile. Prizes will be available for the best participants in each country and a league table will show countries that get the highest proportion of predictions right.
Idea Submission:

The Audience Games
The Audience Games is an opportunity for the audience to compete with the athletes. To do so they have to vote on who will win any one event. This will be possible any time up to the commencement of the event itself.
A league table will track the voting success of any participating country, showing the highest proportion of correct predictions. In addition each user who votes will score points for each correct prediction, and a league table will show both national and international results for each individual user.
Participation could be promoted by broadcasters, who could if they were interested show the latest results from the international voting as and when required. The website with the voting material will have information about the participants and will signpost any other relevant materials.
The Audience Games will provide a mechanic to improve user awareness of the participants, and will also help people cross national boundaries since points are earned through correct predictions rather than simple national following. The Audience Games will provide an exciting truly international interactive competition and game involving potentially millions of players.

Idea Summary: Fantasy Olympics combines elements of successful fantasy football and stock exchange gaming formats to engage people across the world in the 2012 Games long before they actually begin, by inviting them to select squads of sportsmen from different countries and disciplines and monitor their progress through to the London Olympics.
Idea Submission:

What better way to enthuse people about the 2012 Olympics than to invite them to create their own team of Olympic athletes and sportsmen, track their progress before and during the Olympic Games and compete for the Fantasy Olympics Gold Medal!
One of the difficulties with the Olympics fortnight is that ordinary people are suddenly confronted with a barrage of sports and athletes but cannot always engage with the personalities and disciplines involved, particularly those of the lesser-known sports, because they know so little about them. Fantasy Olympics will mitigate this by launching long before the Olympics begin and building interest in the event which will culminate in the Games themselves.
At the heart of the Fantasy Olympics game will be a database of hundreds of competitors from all sports and all countries across the world. This database will monitor the performances of each competitor beginning at a point to be determined prior to the Olympics and compute these into a rating related to the original personal best of that individual. These ratings will rise and fall according to the performances of the individual.
When a player wishes to join in the Fantasy Olympics game, they will be given a purse of, say, 2,000 ratings points which they can spend to create a team of 20 athletes. As well as being differentiated by constantly-changing ratings, the athletes will also be divided into batches of different groups of sports from each of which players must
select a specified number of athletes to ensure fantasy teams reflect a variety of major and minor sports.
So, for instance, a typical player might spend 350 ratings points on a Russian gold medal boxing hopeful whilst cashing in just 50 ratings points on a little-known South Korean teenage archer. The Fantasy Olympics site will carry an extensive form guide for every competitor on the database so players can make their judgements rather like
punters do when they study the form of a horse race.

Idea Summary: A strategic game that allows global users to compete with and against each other online, through a virtual world and social network. The gamers are the coaches of the athletes and have to control their avatars daily habits to get to the top of the ranking.
Idea Submission:

The Olympic Village game is an online virtual world and a socially networked game, where users manage their athlete avatars, and each other, to success. It is a strategic game, combining the best of Championship Manager and Habbo Hotel. Olympic Village promotes the roles that team and sport coaches play at the Olympics and communicates the influence that training, eating and socialising have on sporting success in an accessible way.
The user chooses a country which then influences the number of events that can be managed because it is a direct reflection of the real Olympic teams. There are two play modes:
Team Coach (eg. Team GB) - for the ruthless strategist gamer
- Play online and on mobile + mobile only option
Sport Coach (eg. Rowing, Swimming, Hockey) - for those who want to spend more hands-on game time directing their athletes.
- Online and mobile
As Team Coach, it is your responsibility to choose the best Sport Coaches (the other gamers) to make up your team, and then manage them throughout the Olympics. Your overall ranking will be determined entirely on how well your Sport Coaches do, so if one is not bringing in the required results, you can get rid of them and persuade another of your country's Sport Coaches to join your team.
The Team Coach can distribute their budget allocation across the Sport Coaches within their team. Sport Coaches are limited to management by 3 Team Coaches so Team Coaches will need to battle against other gamers to keep hold of Sport Coaches and pinch others to join their team. Mobile interfaces and updates mean that this game can be played all over the world, particularly in places with projected poor internet access but good mobile phone penetration such as many of the African nations. Regular team updates, team choices and bids can be made using mobile only.
As Sport Coach, you control your athlete avatars in a virtual world and determine their habits in the Olympic Village. The athletes are avatars of the real-life Olympians and the Sport Coach controls everything they do in the Olympic Village to make them win gold. This includes their training, food and drink intake, sleep patterns, entertainment allowance, whether they're allowed partners to visit them, or how much they can flirt with other athletes, all this impacts how well they do when they compete in events. The avatars compete against other gamers' avatars, thanks to an algorithm based on the gamer's directions.
Olympic Village events are the same time as the real-life Olympic events but the outcomes are determined by game play. Will your team and sportsmen do as well in real life as they do in the village?

Idea Summary: Snppr is a web application that let sports fans collaborate and share their memories with fans using their mobile phone to upload pictures. Snppr groups relevant photos together using the mechanism of a challenge. This gives a sense of narrative to the crowd’s memories and provides a compelling reason for each individual user to get involved.
Idea Submission:

Connecting local people globally With over 2 million people from 203 different countries attending and a further 4 billion watching on television, online and via their mobile phones; the 2012 London Olympics promises to be the most watched media event in history. The games will host 302 events across 28 different sports, making it the most diverse sporting event of its kind. Coverage will be at an all time high. Broadcasters will endeavour to capture the action from every conceivable angle. Despite their efforts, broadcasters will find it difficult to capture the true spirit of the event from the fan's perspective. They will struggle to harness the energy and passion that supporters show towards their countries. The moments when fans are at their most expressive tend to go unseen.
To address this problem Mint Digital has developed a way for fans to capture the Olympics from their own perspective - whilst giving them an opportunity to compete with other fans from all over the world. "Snppr take your best shot". Snppr is basically a web application that allows people to compete in photo challenges by uploading pictures via their mobile phone. The challenges that users compete in are designed to take place during live games and online, with prizes being awarded for the most popular submissions with voting to determine the winners. There's no limit to number or variety of challenges, however here are some examples:
- Best costume
- Most committed fan
- Funniest celebration
- Hottest fan
- Best team shot
- Most unusual photo
Snppr Live - Challenge structure
Snppr challenges will happen during live Olympic event such as rowing, athletics, tennis, soccer etc. Following basic instructions fans simply take a picture using their camera phone and upload it either via MMS or email to the Snppr platform. After a specific time period winners will be chosen by judges who view the entries via an online admin system.
Snppr Online Challenge structure
All Snppr entries will also appear on the Snppr website where users will be able to see their entry alongside other submissions. Fans that are unable to compete at the live event can upload an entry directly to the website. Once their image is uploaded (either live or online) users that participated during Snppr Live and those who submitted an entry online, can start soliciting their friends to come and vote for their entry. Snppr submissions will be displayed in a leader board to show how people are doing. Entries with the most votes in each category will win prizes provided by games sponsors.
Summary
Snppr is a highly social and interactive gaming platform, designed to allow fans to capture the Olympics from a completely unique perspective. The challenges will motivate fans to create rich content while connecting them with other sports fans all over the word. The secret to Snppr is the ease at which you can participate during live events and the excitement of having your picture featured on the Snppr website. As a flexible and highly customizable application Snppr can also be adapted and tailored to almost any type of live event. Whether live, online, local or global with Snppr, everyone can play!

Idea Summary: Olympic World is a 3 dimensional multiplayer/participant platform.
Idea Submission:

We would like build upon this by using the world view format as the centre piece/platform for users of all nations to join in, compete and communicate within their own online mini Olympics. Key features:
- Develop a navigable 3 dimensional world as an interface for multiplatform games
- The world can provide all sorts of data as you navigate around it such as medals tables, rankings, number of competitors subscribed to each country and information about a certain country
- Users can subscribe/join their country of choice and choose to enter the online Olympics and their avatar will be stacked up in their representative country on a 3D world map
- Users can subscribe to a number of activities/multiplatform events much as multiplatform games work now (when enough competitors have joined an event it can take place)
Users will then be able to compete for their country in the event they have chosen to join. Events might include:
- Track and field (various)
- Swimming
- Cycling
- Kayaking
- We can then have virtual medal ceremonies and their county gets awarded the medal which can be represented on the 3D world
- Users of differing levels can be filtered by maintaining their current ranking/scores
- Users/competitors can be driven back to the site by subscription emails that provide rankings/medals/world cup information and online athlete and country profiles
- We could create an online networking environment for users to meet in a safe and friendly environment
We believe that the concept would provide a fun and captivating environment for multi cultural interaction and be fit within the Olympic ethos.
