London Sustainability Exchange
"London must not accept any second prizes in making our 2012 Olympics the cleanest and greenest ever. Theenvironment must be at the heart of our Olympics plans and government guidelines should back this up. Butfinding the right solutions especially those which provide the catalyst for behaviour change will not be easy.
Ensuring that each event uses sustainable process without over packaging is certainly going to be a challenge; onethat this project will help us meet."
Samantha Heath
Chief Executive
London Sustainability Exchange
London's successful bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games was backed by a strong commitment to maximising the long-term legacy benefits. Not just in terms of jobs and skills, but a whole range of social and environmental improvements for Londoners.
The challenge now is to turn the vision into a reality. Olympic delivery bodies LOCOG and ODA will not be able to do it alone.
Harnessing tools and techniques already tested in the UK and abroad - from civic engagement techniques to tri-generation - will help, as will specification of clear and consistent performance targets in contracts issued by the LDA and ODA.
We are working to support these aims by:
- Engaging NGOs and businesses to harness their expertise and enthusiasm for a sustainable Games
- Supporting the delivery of all phases of the Games including planning, design, construction and legacy
- Developing skills for a sustainable Games to enable Londoners make the most of the opportunities that arise
LSx has been involved with London 2012 since the beginning of the bid and was a member of the Environment Advisory Group that shaped the environmental chapter of the Candidate File:
"London Sustainability Exchange will play a significant role in networking NGOs and other partners to develop plans, review progress and share ideas." London 2012 Candidate File
