'"London SciTech Challenges offers an important and exciting opportunity to SMEs in the areas of food service retailing to work with academics working in science and technology to develop solutions for their businesses.

The chance to work with academics developing science and technological solutions is one not often open to SMEs as the capital and innovation costs are too high. I am confident we will see developments in the areas of storage, stock control and wast management which will benefit SMEs and ultimately the consumer and citizen."

Centre for Energy & The Environment

The Centre was established in 2001 following the relocation of Professor Arcoumanis and his team from Imperial College to City University. The Centre is housed in the laboratory space of the previous Thermodynamics Centre which was refurbished and equipped with new Laser instrumentation and advanced optical engines. The laboratory also includes advanced test rigs for research in and development of air and refrigeration compressors and two-phase expanders.

The research of the Centre is organised in three major groups:

  • Flow Combustion and Emissions in Automotive Engines
  • Industrial Applications of CFD
  • Positive Displacement Compressors

The activities of the above groups include basic and experimental research in areas such as: Internal Combustion Engines, Transportation Fuels, Laser Diagnostics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Continuum Mechanics, Positive Displacement Compressors, Machine Design and Fuel Cells.
